UNIDO is organising the first international conference on hydrogen in industry – the Slovene Enterprise Fund also participating
Date of publication: 24.03.2026
On April 8, 2026, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will host the first international conference on hydrogen in industry in Vienna. The event will take place at the United Nations premises and will bring together key stakeholders from around the world—from policymakers and industry leaders to financial institutions, international organisations and academia.

The conference, titled “Clean Hydrogen: Shaping Sustainable Industry’s Future”, highlights the role of clean hydrogen as one of the key drivers for decarbonising energy-intensive industries such as steel and fertiliser production. Hydrogen offers significant opportunities to reduce emissions, achieve climate goals and develop new low-carbon industries, particularly in countries with abundant renewable energy resources.
The event will also feature the active participation of the Slovene Enterprise Fund (SEF), which has established the Development Partnership for the Hydrogen Industry among SMEs. The partnership brings together Slovenian companies, research institutions and experts in advanced energy technologies and represents an important step for Slovenia towards developing a hydrogen economy.
Through this partnership, Slovenia is joining UNIDO’s global network, connecting with countries and companies developing clean and green hydrogen technologies. The Director of the Slovene Enterprise Fund will also play an important role at the conference, participating in the programme as a speaker.
The event will address key challenges in deploying hydrogen technologies, including access to finance, the development of markets for green products, strengthening technical readiness, and expanding knowledge and awareness. A particular emphasis will be placed on inclusive dialogue between countries of the Global North and South and on fostering international cooperation.
The conference programme includes plenary sessions, panel discussions and thematic talks that will cover the financing of hydrogen projects, supply chain development, the role of hydrogen in the digital economy, and the transformation of key industrial sectors.
The conference is being held within the framework of the UNIDO Global Programme for Hydrogen in Industry (GPHI), which supports a just and sustainable transition to a hydrogen economy in developing and transition countries.
The event will also be available to follow online.
